File Explorer folders have separate process windows in Task Manager

Windows 10 Build 1903 launches File Explorer folders in separate Windows processes by default. For the time being, the new feature is available to Fast and Slow ring insiders running the latest Insider build versions. In other words, each folder that users will open will have their own separate process. This feature is actually a very practical one. For example, if the system freezes due to some folder issues, the rest of the File Explorer processes won’t be affected. Previously, if one of the folders hanged, that impacted the entire OS including the desktop. So, users had to restart the affected processes, close the affected File Explorer windows and even restart their computers. Users can avoid this behavior by following this path: Folder Options > Launch folder windows in a separate process.  Each folder that you open will now run in its own process and just one folder will be affected if it stops responding. It should be noted that this option was not enabled by default in the previous builds. Microsoft enabled this option by default in the Windows 10 April 2019 Update. The Windows Explorer process will be visible in the apps section of the Task Manager. Users will be ab...

Sibur-adding-thermoplastic-elastomer-capacity-at-site-in-Russia web web

VORONEZH, Russia—Sibur is increasing production of styrenic copolymer-based thermoplastic elastomers at its plant in Voronezh by 50,000 metric tons per year. Through the expansion, the site, which already produces about 85,000 tons of TPEs per year, will see the addition of new grades for compounds and adhesives. These products, targeted for the roofing and road construction end markets, will enable Sibur to better meet the growing demand for TPE both domestically and internationally. Applications will include polymer-bitumen binders, which can more than double road-pavement life up to around 10 years, the company noted. “With new capacities to be put on stream, Sibur will be able to fully meet the prospective domestic [demand],” Sibur’s Managing Director Pavel Lyakhovich said. “On top of that, we will keep tapping into the European TPE market, with new grades set to boost our export potential.” Sibur did not disclose an investment amount, nor did it give a timeline for the TPE expansion project. Previously, the company invested about $70 million for a capacity expansion of similar size. As the company works to expand the production of TPEs at the ...

Best GPS dog collars 2019: Use these trackers to locate your pet

If you’re like us, you get slight separation anxiety when you see your doggo run off. We don’t blame you. The American Humane Association estimates over 10 million dogs and cats are lost and stolen in the U.S. every year. Equipping pets with ID tags or microchips is one way to ensure your pets’ safe return in case they get lost while on vacation or stray away from home, but you can take your dog’s safety to another level — with wearable tech for pets. Pet wearables, such as GPS collars, are making it possible for pet parents to track their doggo’s location (and even monitor their activity) wherever they are.  How do these GPS pet trackers work? A GPS chip in the tracker acquires your pet’s position and sends the info to the internet and your smartphone primarily via cell coverage. Usually, an app is used to display your pet’s location on a map. Base stations are commonly used to establish the link between the tracker, which is attached to your dog’s collar, and your smartphone via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Some smart collars also track more than just your fur baby’s location, they monitor activity and sleeping patterns like a “Fitbit for pets.” Note, however, that a GPS tracker is no...

Sometimes there will appear a figure that flies in the face of reason, and challenges everything

Sometimes there will appear a figure that flies in the face of reason, and challenges everything you think you know about a subject. Just such a moment came from [Chris Taylor] at Milton Keynes Makerspace when he characterised a set of LED strips, and the figure in question was that he found an LED strip creates the same amount of heat as its equivalent incandescent bulb. We can hear your coffee hitting the monitor and your reaching for the keyboard to place a suitably pithy comment, because yes, that’s a pretty unbelievable statement. But it’s no less true, albeit that the key to it lies in its details. If you have a 100 W incandescent bulb, 88% of the energy is radiated as light and infra-red, leaving 12 W heating the bulb itself. To get the same light output from an LED meanwhile we’d only need 17 W, of which 11.9 W would be left to heat the LED. Which means that an LED strip can get as hot as an incandescent bulb with equivalent light output, and he’s run some tests to prove it. If you’ve worked with LEDs, you’ll know that they get hot. But to learn that they have the potential to get as hot as their incandescent equivalents is something of a eye-opener, and should demonstra...

Mike Anthony: UConn women’s basketball better off in the Big East, even if the program never struggled in six years without it

A slice of pizza, a cigar and an iced tea at arm’s reach. This was Geno Auriemma, relaxed as usual, Monday afternoon at Hartford Golf Club, where he took a break from his annual charity golf event to meet the media. The bulk of the questions, even if there wasn’t much Auriemma could say in response, were about UConn and the Big East, of course. Few if any people were less affected by UConn not being part of the Big East or a major conference back in 2013 — “We’re in a league of our own,” he said that year — and few people are affected less by UConn’s move to the Big East, which will be finalized this week. In six years as an American Athletic Conference team, UConn has won three national titles, reached the Final Four six times and gone 120-0 against conference opponents. Still, Auriemma is said to be strongly in favor of the move and even worked tirelessly to help make it come to fruition. Why? Because it makes sense for the university. The move is something to celebrate for Dan Hurley, something for Randy Edsall to have to live with, something that puts some programs in a better place than others, something UConn had to do in protecting and promoting its top assets. The...

Cycle of Rage: New Streetfilms Doc Shows New York’s Bike Infrastructure Is Ultimately a Joke

Cyclists around the world are enjoying a seven-course meal, but New York riders are somehow being tricked into believing they can be sated by Bill de Blasio’s crumbs. We’ve written about how Paris removed a highway to create a much-loved Seine-side sanctuary. We’ve written how London has taken back control of its core by barring cars. We’ve published so much bike porn from Amsterdam that our brake linings are completely worn down. But the latest cause for our fury is the most-recent production by Streetfilms auteur Clarence Eckerson Jr., just back from Utrecht, one of Holland’s great cities. Just watch it below. It’s only five minutes. But it will alter your perceptions about what is possible and how American cyclists and pedestrians have so internalized our oppression by car culture that we can’t even see it as oppression anymore. When you see what was accomplished in Utrecht, it will make you ashamed to live in a city where life-saving quality-of-life improvements are beholden to the interests of the car-owning minority. It will make you disgusted that the Department of Transportation doesn’t even try to build safe cycling and pedestrian infrastructure in Bay Ridge — but offer...
